It’s time for me to write another book.

The first two books I wrote were written with traditional publishers through a traditional process - I spent several weeks writing into a Word document, delivered the content to an editor and a year and a half later, a book is released to the public.

I hate traditional publishing for a variety of reasons:

• The time between when the book is written and when it’s released - you have to wait 18-months and a lot can change in that time.

• You don’t get real feedback from the editor, who oftentimes is completely unfamiliar with the topic you’re writing about.

• There’s no help with marketing, you have to do it all on your own.

So, for my third book, I want to try something different:

Instead of writing into a Word document, I’m going to use this Substack to draft my book. You will be able to see it as a work in progress, and access the information in real-time and follow my process in the creation of the final document.

• You get access to drafts of sections and chapters as they are written.

  • This may include content that does not make it into the final version. Sometimes when you’re writing a book, you have to “kill your darlings” and remove some of the best content because it simply doesn’t fit into the overall picture. You’ll still have access to those behind the scenes, unpublished aspects in this version.

• You’ll be able to offer feedback and critiques on the sections, and make requests for content that you would like to see.

  • This will effectively outsource the book's editing to people who are fully invested in my work, many of whom have followed along with me for years.

  • This is infinitely preferable to an editor who does not understand the content and will lead to a better final product for the reader when it’s complete because it will speak directly to their needs.

• I’ll record audio versions of some of the content if you prefer to listen

  • While I can’t guarantee I’ll create audio versions for all of the content, there will be a podcast you can access as a subscriber that will allow you to listen along.

The goal is to write a book that will be released in print and as an audiobook at some point in the future when I feel it’s “done.”

But I’m going to take my time with this one. Both of my previous books were written in a matter of weeks and, while I think the content of both holds up, I want to be more pragmatic about this one. And since the content will be available in real-time, I think that balances giving people access to the information and being able to produce something I’m proud of that will be a timeless resource for people who want to understand the revolutionary far-left for years to come.
